The Johnson County Library Foundation received a grant from the John Scully Foundation Trust for $42,000 it was recently announced.
During a dinner attended by Library Director Cynthia Twing, Patricia Linehan, neice of John Scully, discussed the foundation's grants to engineering students at Scully's two alma maters, South Dakota School of Mines and Purdue University.
Linehan mentioned the foundation had not expended their funds for the year, and Twing asked if some funds could go to the Johnson County Library's expansion fund.
The advisors for the fund awarded the expansion project $42,000.
Cynthia Twing explained that the funds will be used for amenities, furnishings, books and other items that will be needed in the expanded library, not for construction.
She explains how the library gained such a good friend in John Scully.
The library has been the recipient of John Scully's generosity before.
Following his death in 2008, his estate gave $108,000 which the library foundation used in the Wyoming Library Endowment Fund where it became $324,000 after the state's matching funds were applied.
And the Friends of the Library were named heir to his vast collection of books.
