Sheridan County School District No. 2 approved their budget for the fiscal year 2011-2012 during Wednesday night's board meeting, 83 percent of which goes to teacher salaries and benefits. Business Manager for SCSD2, Roxie Taft, talked about this year's budget.

2011-2012's total budget is $67,265,337, a 3 percent increase from last year's. Taft said the staff raises from this year accounted for the increase.

The General Fund Budget in Revenues is $43,747,765, and the Budget in Expenditures is $44,500,000 - a gap that will be made up for with state funding allocated by Average Daily Membership of students in District 2 Schools in 2012.

Superintendent Craig Dougherty says that this is a healthy budget that, in turn, contributes to good things for students.

This year's Capital Fund is up from last year; FY12 has $13 million for the fund compared to FY11's Capital Fund of $5.75 million. Taft credited the spike to the fact that this year the district is starting construction contracts like the Meadowlark school project, compared to last year when it was finishing construction contracts.
