The Sheridan County School District No. 1 Board appointed an official School District 1 board member to the Sheridan Recreation District Board during a regular meeting Tuesday night in Ranchester.

District No. 1 board member Kristi Von Krosigk volunteered and was selected by the board to serve as a sixth member on the Rec. District board, representing the school district.

District 1 Teacher of the Year

TRE teacher Mike Board and Big Horn Elementary teacher Stacey Donnelly were also recognized as District 1 Teachers of the month for October.

The board recognized TR Elementary teacher Kathy Winkelmann as Teacher of the Year for District 1. Winkelmann has taught for 24 years at TRE, starting out in 1988 as a speech pathologist. She has also taught Kindergarten and fifth grade.

Now teaching 2nd Grade, Winkelmann accepted the recognition at the meeting, saying that the award is a product of students and staff she works with on a daily basis.

Wyoming Legislature Joint Education Committee Meetings

Superintendent Marty Kobza also gave a summary to the board of his and Business Manager Jeremy Smith's attendance of the Wyoming Legislature's Joint Education Committee meetings Tuesday in Casper.

Kobza says decisions regarding K-12 at the meetings were disappointing as legislators are again discussing a 0% increase in External Cost Adjustment for K-12, which Kobza says limits the District financially and subsequently adversely affects things like attraction of new teachers. Kobza and Smith will be in Casper again today as the Joint Education Committee meets again.

Tune in later today for more on these stories from SCSD1.
