Sheridan Media's Chris Foy brings us this report about how Sheridan County School District 1 was placed near the top of a list to receive funding to expand Tongue River Elementary School.
At Tuesday night's meeting of the Sheridan County School District 1 Board of Trustees, district business manager Jeremy Smith said he spent last Thursday in Casper visiting the School Facilities Department. Smith explains.
Smith said based on projected growth in the communities served by District One, the School Facilities Department has decided to place Tongue River Elementary School near the top of the list to receive some of that $10 million in funding to expand the elementary school to fit the projected demand for a bigger building.
He plans on returning to Casper on April 17 to seek approval from the School Facilities Commission on the means with which the district will utilize that funding, and he says pending that approval, District One will receive money to design a new school for Tongue River Elementary students. And not just in the future, right now.
Smith, the entire board of trustees and some members of the audience expressed their excitement for this new project. But as Smith explained, the funding will hopefully be set aside by the School Facilities Commission next Wednesday, and the project as a whole hinges on allocation of that funding by the state legislature.
