The Sheridan County School District 2 Board of Trustees approved the budget for fiscal year 2013 through 2014 at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night.

Salaries and benefits for staff comprise nearly 82.3 percent of the total budget. SCSD 2 Superintendent, Craig Dougherty, explains why that is so important to the district's overall budget of $75.1 million.

This year, the capital fund expanded to meet demand for an additional elementary school. Dougherty explains what residents and students can expect to see by August of 2014.

There was also a consensus amongst the board to seek legal counsel to find out which avenues the district can pursue in relation to keeping the fresh fruits and vegetables program available to as many students as possible. We'll have more on that aspect of the budget tomorrow.
