The Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue is having its second annual community-wide spay/neuter event this weekend.
The event is free of charge to members of the community who cannot afford to have their cats and dogs fixed. Three veterinarians are coming from Montana for the three-day event, which will be at the Fairgrounds exhibit hall Friday through Sunday. Rachel Kristiansen, director of program services, said owners are encouraged to be involved with their pets' care.
This annual event was initiated to address pet overpopulation problems in Sheridan. The shelter has received two grants to fund this year's event.
Last year, the event brought out more than 550 pets on a rainy day, and as of Friday, there were already 300 pets registered.
