Sheridan College announced the winner of its Annual Student Art Exhibition, which was recently held at the Martinsen Gallery in the Whitney Building. An oil painting by Sheridan College student, Ivy Harbour, won the best in show award.

Harbour said in a media release that her favorite part in creating the winning piece, entitled "Unconventional Still Life," was interpreting a familiar image through her own eyes. She says she enjoys drawing or painting people because she gets to tell a story about a person using the visual language.

Judging the exhibition was local artist, Joel Ostlind. Ostlind said the student artwork demonstrated both academic learning and artistic synthesis to a high degree - and that it was a strong showing of emerging talent.

The exhibition will continue to run through Thursday, May 9th and can be viewed during the college's normal hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, people can contact Sheridan College at 674-6446, ext. 2850.
