Sheridan County School District 2 trustees approved a contract this weekend under which the district will teach online courses nationwide on a professional learning community.

Action came during a board retreat Saturday at The Ranch in Ucross. School District Superintendent Craig Dougherty said the course will start this fall.

The contract is with Dr. Casey Reason, who, Dougherty said, is one of the most renowned online educators in providing professional development for Solution Tree. Dougherty said the district is excited. He said the district is hopeful that it can generate some revenue from the course but, more important, he wants to share the story that there should be no excuses and that children should be able to learn at a very high level.

Also during their retreat, trustees considered their meeting schedule for next year and heard reports on other programs including the principals' academy and the district's technology efforts.

Dougherty said the district started the principals' academy this past fall.

He said the district is working with principals of other districts, and he described the program as a framework on how principals can implement and cultivate the professional learning community culture in their schools.

Dougherty said the local school district is currently working with the Natrona County school district, and a couple of the Natrona County assistant superintendents are also involved.
