Some Federal stimulus funds will be used in Sheridan County School District 1. The funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act will be distributed through the Title 1 program in the state. However, to qualify for those funds, schools must have a certain ratio of students receiving free or reduced lunches. Tongue River Elementary Principal Deb Hofmeier says her school is the only school in the district eligible.
Now, the school must decide where those funds will be allocated.
There are several restrictions placed on the funds in the Federal legislation. Because the funds come through Title 1, most of the monies will have to be used for math and reading programs in the school.
The school will still accept suggestions on how to use funds and they have not made any final decisions at this time.
