The Johnson County School Board, at their meeting last week, discussed the proposed new elementary school that has been tentatively approved by the State School Facilities Commission.
District Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler explains where the project now sits.
The initial phase, according to Kessler, will start in mid-July after the state signs contracts with the architect.
The state and the architect already have the facility fairly laid out and will handle the design aspect of the facility, with the local school district involved as a third party, with limited input, he said.
Although the district will have some options to choose from should they so choose. For example, at Sunset Elementary in Cody, they have a general music class and need only one music room, where Buffalo offers both choir and band and will require two music rooms.
The tentative date for occupying the new school is May of 2013.
