Seniors at Buffalo and Kaycee High Schools planning on studying the arts or humanities in college have an opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help pay for their education.
The Johnson County Arts and Humanities Council is offering the scholarship for studying fine or performance art or humanities.
Vikki Chennette, who is in charge of overseeing the scholarship award, explains what humanities are.
Chennette said in the past there have been students interested in music, photojournalism, journalism, and some other interesting fields. The money for the scholarship, she said, is raised by the council and awarded every year for the past five.
The scholarship will be awarded in April, and the recipient will be awarded on merit and a demonstrated ability to succeed in their chosen field.
Applicants will need to send a letter describing their study plans; a letter of recommendation; and artwork slides, creative writing samples, performance video or any other samples of their work to the committee, at the address posted below.
The application deadline is March 15th.
