Those participating in the sixth annual Sheridan College in Johnson County Rope For Knowledge saw sunny skies and light mud on Saturday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.
Services specialist Ashlea Bassett said the entry fees from the event are split in half. One half goes to the college's scholarship fund, she said, and the rest goes to pay out awards.
The event included barrel racing, team roping and other events in both junior and adult classes.
Buffalo local Breanna Reimler is a student at Casper College, and winner of the barrel racing competition last year. This year, she is preparing her horses to gear up for college rodeo. Though she participates in many competitions like these, she said she has a soft spot for this one.
Bassett's daughter, Karina Bassett participated in the junior barrel racing event.
She said her favorite part of barrel racing is the rush at the finish.
$3,500 in fall and winter scholarships were given to eight county residents at the event as well.
