The renovation of the kitchen hood is nearly complete at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, which has allowed the kitchen to recently open back up for business. Part of the reason for the renovation was to make the hood compliant by changing it from a vapor laden to a grease laden hood, meaning just about anything can be cooked in the kitchen nowadays, which wasn't always the case. It will also allow for the hospital to offer room service to patients.

Hospital Nutritional Services Manager Sandy Fuller says that part of the recovery and healing process is getting the proper nutrition. The room service menu will allow for that anytime the patient wishes.

Hospital Executive Chef Andy Irion explains what he envisions now that the sky's the limit as far as what he can cook.

There is some work that needs to be done before the room service program is up and running, as the makeup-air handler needs to be installed along with various items within the kitchen. The hospital is hoping to have room service available for patients by spring or early summer. It should also be noted that anyone can enjoy Chef Irion's talents, as the hospital cafeteria is open to the public Monday through Friday for breakfast between 7 and 9 am, and weekdays for lunch 11 to 1 pm.
