A black bear has been spotted roaming the area around the town of Story searching for food. The warning comes from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. In a news release issued Thursday, game officials say residents in that area need to be on alert.
Wildlife supervisor Joe Gilbert of the Game and Fish department's regional office in Sheridan says they've received several calls recently regarding the bear. He says at times the bear seems to be afraid of people and at other times doesn't notice anyone around. As of noon on Thursday, the bear had not displayed any aggression toward humans but had received several human food rewards by raiding unsecured trash cans.
A live trap has been set in the Story area to catch the animal, according to the report, and if caught, the bear will be relocated. Bear sightings can be reported to the wildlife department, at any time, by calling the local office. The number for the Sheridan Regional Game and Fish Office is 307-672-7418.
