Revenue Down, Expenses Up at Sheridan Memorial Hospital

Inpatient numbers at Sheridan Memorial Hospital continue to be down when compared to last year. The lower numbers have resulted in a drop in revenue says Hospital Chief Financial Officer Ed Johlman.

Johlman indicated that the two biggest reasons for the drop in revenue are the lower inpatient numbers and the decline in the average length of stay for patients at the hospital.

Johlman said that six years ago when he arrived at Sheridan Memorial, inpatient stays accounted for 70 percent of the hospital's revenue, while today it accounts for only 39 percent. That's been a trend nationally that is now starting to be experienced at Sheridan Memorial said Johlman.
