Republican Group Wants More Push For Wilderness Protection

(WY News Service) -- A Republican group is working to cross party lines and make environmental issues less of a partisan issue but is having trouble gaining traction with a series of proposed legislation.

Republicans for Environmental Protection have about 20 bills that aren't getting much attention in Congress. Jim DiPeso is the group's vice president.

Among the many actions the legislation would take, bills would designate wilderness areas, conserve wetlands and fight invasive species in 14 states.

One of those bills is Wyoming Representative Cynthia Lummis' Federal Land Transfer Facilitation Act that would help in the acquisition of lands with high environmental and recreational value.
