Report to NWCCD: JAC Looking Closely At Budgets

At the meeting held in Buffalo this week, the Northern Wyoming Community College District received a report from Dr. Mark Englert, who had been at the recent Joint Appropriation Committee meetings where funding for the state's community colleges and the University of Wyoming were discussed.
With state revenues expected to fall in 2012, the JAC is looking at cutting budgets and funding requests across the board, he said.
Another subject discussed was capital construction projects for the community colleges and the University and how the JAC and the state can strike a balance in their roles within capital construction projects and the funding for them, and to look at those needs more broadly and farther out, say five to ten years across the higher educational system in the state.
Englert said the community colleges in the state will continue to lobby the JAC for more funding.
The Appropriations Committee will continue meeting in Cheyenne through January 27, and the Wyoming Legislature's Budget Session will convene at 10 am on February 13.
