Friday night Sheridan's 18th Annual Relay for Life event will take place. Over twenty teams that will be taking part, with the theme “Celebrating Birthdays.”
For the third year, it all happens at the track facilities on the Normative Services campus west of Sheridan. Event Chair Lynnie Phipps comments.
While the overnite celebration is all about walking, games, contests, and a general sense of fun, about an hour is always taken when the sun sets, roughly around 10 pm Friday night, for the luminaria walk. The stadium lights are turned off and glow sticks are lit in bags that line the inside of the track. People walk while the names are read of those who have survived cancer and those who have lost the battle.
Lynnie tells us that while some of the money raised goes to the national American Cancer Society for administrative costs, the majority comes back to communities around Wyoming.
If you would like to participate in any or all of the 2010 “Celebrate Birthdays” Relay for Life, it runs from 5 o'clock this Friday evening until 8 o'clock Saturday morning.
