The annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Dayton, called the Battle Under the Big Horns, is coming up at the end of the month.
The event is hosted by the Tongue River Valley Community Center. Erin Kilbride is the center’s executive director. She said the tournament, set for June 28, is for boys and girls in grades fourth through eighth.
She went on to say the purpose is to give local athletes and others a chance to build skills, confidence and experience. Chad Aksamit, who’s the program director for the center, said it’s not too late to sign up to participate. The registration deadline is June 17. The event’s become very popular, he said, so they’re expecting a good turnout.
Most teams have four or five players, so Kilbride said the event draws a crowd of about 400-500 people. She said bring lawn chairs and blankets, but you won’t need to bring lunch. The Tongue River High School FCCLA will be running concessions with proceeds going to the group, which is a national career and technical student organization. The proceeds from the tournament will go to the Tongue River Valley Community Center, which, Kilbride said, provides educational, recreational, social and cultural opportunities for everyone living in the valley.
