Property owner Bill Joy came before the Buffalo City Council at their meeting last week to request a refund for more than six years' of overcharges for garbage service at his apartment complex. He explains further.
Joy requested his new bill reflect he owns one dumpster that will be picked up twice a month and that he be reimbursed for the just-under seven years he overpaid for garbage services.
City Clerk Julie Silbernagel said that Joy had been charged $149.80 for two dumpsters picked up twice a month, but should have been charged $108.80 for only one dumpster picked up twice a month.
Discussions between council and Silbernagel continued concerning possible rate increases and the fact that the City had no detailed records involving what service had actually been requested by the property owner, which could create a problem figuring a refund amount the city owed.
Councilman Stan Lakin made a suggestion and a subsequent motion on the matter.
The council voted to refund $1,517 to Joy for the mistake.
