Ranchester Considers Irrigation Ordinance

Ranchester's Town Council looked at a proposed irrigation ordinance at their meeting this week that would allow residents along the Tongue River Irrigation Ditch to draw water for use on their yards.

Mayor Allan Moore said the ordinance is just in preliminary stages and must be reviewed by the Tongue River Ditch Company before being formally considered.

During Tuesday's meeting, the council did take action on a couple of issues. The council adopted a flood damage prevention ordinance on third and final reading, and gave second-reading approval to an ordinance that prohibits bars from serving food to under-age children unless the child is accompanied by a parent. No minor child would be allowed to eat in a bar after 10 o'clock, even if a parent is present.

Councilors also heard from the town's fire chief regarding a possible violation of the noxious odor ordinance. The odor is coming from an auto body shop, and the mayor said the owner of the shop appears to be in compliance with Ranchester's laws. Councilors authorized sending a letter to the shop owner to verify compliance.
