The schedule has been released for Sheridan County's first annual Ranch Sustainability seminar. The event's been set for May 12-14 at the Padlock Ranch and Sheridan College.
Topics to be covered include
low-stress livestock handling, range monitoring, improving ranch productivity through web and mobile apps, and three keys to healthy ranch businesses.
Sheridan College President Dr. Paul Young will talk about agriculture at Sheridan College. Other speakers will include Nancy Labbe with the Wyoming Wildlife Federation, who will discuss why the federation is concerned about ranch sustainability. McDonald's Corporate Vice President Bob Langert will be keynote speaker at a dinner for forum participants on May 13. His subject will be McDonald's corporate goal of sustainable beef by 2016.
The dinner will be preceded by an open house in the Watt Building on the Sheridan College campus, starting at 5 o'clock. Padlock Ranch Chief Executive Officer Wayne Fahsholtz is one of the organizers of the forum. He said the goal is to provide informational resources and tools for ranchers to help maintain healthy and sustainable ranches in 2020 and beyond.
