The Public Transit Initiative of Sheridan County contracted with LSC Transportation Consultants to complete a transit needs assessment and transit service plan for Sheridan County. The results of that study were presented Thursday night at the Sheridan Senior Center. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter was there and has the story.

The nearly year long assessment took a look at the various public transportation services currently available and the need for future growth and development of public transportation in the area. A.T. Stoddard with LSC Transportation Consultants talks about some of the recommendations that are outlined in the draft transit plan.

During his presentation, Stoddard stated that establishing a regional transportation authority would be the best long term approach, if the community supported the idea. Sheridan Senior Center Executive Director and member of the transit initiative, Carmen Rideout says they'll take a long look at all of the options.

Rideout added that implementing a fixed route service could take several years to accomplish, and that it won't happen without the input and support from the community.
