A 45-day public comment period is under way regarding the proposed supplemental regulations for Story area septic systems.

Over the past year, Sheridan County staff has held three public meetings with the residents of Story to garner comments and concerns about the proposed regulations that are intended to provide a higher level of care to the septic systems in the Story area.

Sheridan County Public Works Director Rod Liesinger explains that there are two primary changes that are being proposed to the County's rules and regulations.

Liesinger says that the other major change pertains to soil quality.

After the 45-day public comment period is up, the County Commission will consider the amendments at their regularly scheduled meeting in February of 2012. The Commission can elect to extend the public comment period if they so desire.
