Wyoming has consistently been one of the worst states nationwide when it comes to workplace safety, in particular workplace deaths. According to a yearlong study by Epidemiologist Dr. Tim Ryan, much of this can be attributed to the oil and gas industry and their failure to follow workplace safety rules. That report, along with recommendations were submitted to Governor Matt Mead in December.
Equality State Policy Center Executive Director Dan Neal was a recent guest on News Talk 930 KROE'S Public Pulse program, where he was asked by Host Kim Love about the issue.
Neal explains that the Policy Center has been in contact with the Governor regarding their ideas on how the state can improve workforce safety.
Neal said that one of Dr. Ryan's issues that he focused on in the report was that very few companies in Wyoming rarely take advantage of the courtesy inspections, as most companies typically don't invite OSHA out to take a look at their work sites.
