Police Respond To Alleged Homicide

Sheridan Police officers responded to a call reporting a possible homicide in Sheridan sometime before 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. The Special Response Team was called in to secure the area around 1075 Bellevue Avenue.

Just before 4PM officers escorted one subject away from the residence in handcuffs and SRT members, along with help from Sheridan County Sheriff’s deputies and the Sheriff’s K-9 unit secured the residence and began to search the area.

As of 4:30 Friday afternoon, law enforcement had not located a body and the suspect, as well as another person of interest were transported to the Sheridan Police Department. Officers are conducting interviews with the subjects this evening.

Sergeant Tom Henry of the Sheridan Police Department says the investigation is just beginning and they have no further information at this time.

My thoughts on the subject at hand right now.

I think everyone should carry a gun for protection. If somebody breaks in and tries to kill and rape me or my family there is no way in hell i would have doubts in defending my family to the best of my ability. If that means shooting the asshole(s) that tried to shoot me, I WOULD!!! Of course i would try to let the officers know first but if i dont have time I WOULD take my chances on going to prison on a self defense charge then sit back and let my family get hurt or worse. It is anyones right! As for the pd, i feel that they r doing a good job. They got the guy in custody. As for Sheridan being unsafe, it has went down hill but so has the rest of the world. Its not like other places, shit even Utah has a worse murder rate per capita than here. Everyone, should just wake up and start living in the real world where these things DO happen and mayb just use these problems as a tool to b aware of whats really going on and learn how to defend urselves. Get a guard dog, know who u trust to come in and out ur house and yard. I dont know a lot but i do know that life is not going to b easy thats why God said it is a test. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends on both sides of the tragic ordeal.

I concur

Castle law. The right to defend your castle by any force necessary. How come they let you use cuss words? On another note, maybe gun sales will increase, I dont own one, but will have to think about it.

wrong page.

Sir your on the completely wrong case here. This guys isnt a child or a teenager he is an adult just like you. He did a stupid thing. There were no teenagers or child even involved in this case so stop blaming us for something that we didnt even take part in. You adults just need to accept the fact you can be just as stupid as we can be.

Murder

I was just wondering what is happening in this world today?? What is the difference from when we grew up (Im 58) compared to now?? Yes we had some crime but nothing like what is going on now!!
Im wondering if maybe it is because children no longer respect their parents or any adult? could it possibly have to do with the way a child is disiplined growing up? When we were bad we knew we would get spanked or grounded. Today you "talk" to your child!!! that doesnt seem to be working!! These kids arent stupid and know that they cant be spanked so they know there are no consequences so they keep on doing!! Now I know that not all are like this but there are some as we all can tell from what has been happening just here in sheridan lately! this is just my thoughts I welcome anyone elses ideas as to why it is like it is today. by the way I dont blame the police how could they know?? they cant be everywhere.

For that guy that thinks the

For that guy that thinks the police solved the ernest case they did crap! 2 out of the 3 turned themselves in and the last 1 got caught by a triffic violation! The police here are terrible! So much goes down and they do NOTHING! Except try to bust people for meaningless crimes like speeding or running a stop sign while theirs people here that are doing drugs, drinking, or stealing!

You are so mislead my

You are so mislead my friend, it is disturbing. Not one of the Ernst suspects turned themselves in. That is plain and simple not accurate. If you are going to post, don't put blatant lies on here.

wow, you are a genius

an officer cannot just go to a house and search it for drugs. It takes a lot more then 'word of mouth' and that isnt the fault of the police officers in this town. It is the law. They can go and ask to come in and search the house but the owner of the house has to say that it is ok, which he obviously would say no if he was a drug dealer. OR they have to get a warrant from a judge and if there isnt enough information then a judge isnt going to approve one. Drug dealers are criminals, manipulative, sneaky, individuals. Which usually leads to a hard to do drug bust. The police have guidelines they have to stick to. If you can do a better job then join the police force!

I live right across the

I live right across the street from where the murder happened and as the orginal post said we have called the cops several times and got no response.. it has been well known that drugs was a part of the residence and yet nothing has been done about it..

BILLINGS - Sheridan police are investigating a murder. A press release said police were called to 1075 Bellevue Friday afternoon. When they arrived they found 42-year-old Gerald Bloom of Sheridan dead. They also arrested 28-year-old Shawn Osborne of Sheridan.
Officials said it looks like Bloom was killed with an edged weapon. Special agents from the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation are helping in the investigation. The WY crime lab has been called in to assist in processing the crime scene.

Homicide

As I sit here and read these comments, it is clear that many do not have a knowledge of the criminal justice system or how an investigation works. First, the Sheridan Police Department is not going to release information about their investigation until it is complete and should not just because people are nosey and think they need to know everything right this instant. Second, the rumor mill is already going and kudos to the person who has information on who was killed and is not posting. To the person telling them they need to post it, you apparently have no consideration for the victim and their family. Stop being concerned about yourself and think about how you would feel if you were a family member and found out they had been killed because someone posted it as a comment on a website. And finally, what is everyone on here doing as a community to stop the drugs and behaviors that are occurring. The Sheridan Police Department alone cannot keep crime from occurring. It is going to take the community and every member in it working together to make Sheridan a better place. Kudos to Sheridan Media for their reporting of a possible crime and to the Sheridan Police Department....their jobs are not easy. To all of you that continuously sit on here and make comments about others and how they should be doing their jobs, maybe you should quit sitting around complaining and start doing something for your community!

Right to know

The public has right to know now if a violent crime has taken place. How, why, who and where, expecially if the police already have someone in custody. I know I would want to know.

I talked to a 17 year kid that knew all the names and info of what happened 30 minutes after the police were there. All verified today with reports. This is a small community.

For the victim and thier family? I would rather know earlier then later if something bad happened to a family member. I would then inquire into the situation myself, without others telling what to think or what I should do.

Nothing wrong with being aware. Even if it doesnt involve your family.

Yes, you would rather know

Yes, you would rather know earlier that later if it was your family member, but would you want to find out through the Sheridan Media chatroom, or on the local news that your son, brother, or father had been murdered. Not revealing all of the information right away is partially out of respect for the family, so they can all be notified before the whole world knows. Murders are not very common in your nice little community so you people are probably not very familar with how a murder investigation works. If all of the information is released, the investigation could become tainted, it could skew peoples perceptions of things that had occurred and even cause some people to create stories. The investigation and the respect of the family are more important than people being nosy. You say it is your right to know, but the information concerning an ongoing police investigation is protected by the law. You don't really have a right to know.

I know for a fact that the

I know for a fact that the police were called there several times for disturbing the peace calls, known drug dealers were in and out of the house, and the people that frequented there were creepy (for lack of a better word). I've known one of the men arrested for many years (having grown up next door) and I will tell you that SOBER he is a very pleasant person but in the last few years it's gotten to the point where I won't stay at my relative's house because I don't trust what is going on next door (and honestly I was fearful of my safety). Concerns were brought to SPD, the owner of the trailer park, and even the Mayor and nothing was done about it. Sometimes citizens try to do the right thing and are told "We'll see what we can do" but obvioulsy not enough was done.

R U Crazy

Nobody does drugs in this town, how can anybody say anything bad about Sheridan, Wyoming. This place must have the nicest, fairest, lawbiding citizens in the country. NOT

Every person I know is an addict: alchohol, perscription drugs, weed, sex, co-dependent, drama, control. Open your eyes. Is this really such a surprise, I am surprised it dont happen more often. Do the right thing, people!!!!

I am and will one of those creepy people that hang out once and awhile at creep trailors, I wonder If I should fear for my safety?

ppl these days! thats crap

ppl these days! thats crap that you would take a life of someone else, how would that persone like to have someone kill some one in his family that is way crazy!sheridan is going down hill a lot of city goers coming in and bringing the crime with it!Sheridan is going down hill very quickly in my eyes!!

Thats crap! Most of the

Thats crap! Most of the people that commit crimes in Sheridan are from Sheridan... especially those that cmmite murder... that guy was born and raised in Sheridan. I am from sheridan and now i live in Atlanta... one of the highest crime citys in the country... but we dont have crime as drimatic as cutting a guys throat and throwing him under the porch and going on about your day even here. So thoise of you that think that big city crime is exposing your little town you better take a better look... its has always been there... it just is becoming more public.

"we dont have crime as

"we dont have crime as drimatic as cutting a guys throat and throwing him under the porch"

Also growing up in Sheridan and now living in Atlanta I would have to say I have seen far worse here. I live in a better part of Atlanta/Alpharetta and just last week we had a home invasion where people break in and commit hanis acts on the families .. It is a common thing for the thugs of south Atlanta to come up here to make hits.. I would trade living in Alpharetta for living in Sheridan in a heartbeat..

murder?

It seems funny that the media gets the information about the call, the lack of a body, and who responded, but give no information about why the police department believed there was a homicide or why the extensive effort to find a body with so little evidence. If the media gave better information to the public I believe the police department would look more competent than they are commonly portrayed.

Work with what we've got.

What you saw in that report was all the information that we had at the time. I couldn't report any more information to the public because that is all the information that the authorities released to us at the time. There is an update posted now with more information in it but not much. I asked the questions that you want answers to, but if law enforcement doesn't tell us then I can't give you any more than I have. It is typical of police agencies (not just in Sheridan) to withhold information about an ongoing investigation. They do this because if specific details were released then the rumor mill starts. This is proven by looking at comments shortly after the Ernst case and the dozens of calls I fielded this afternoon. Many of which contain more guessing than fact and that creates false leads that law enforcement may have to investigate at a large waste of resources. They had not located the body at the time of that report which I wrote at the scene while officers were interviewing people at the police station. Plus, I was directed by the scene commander to contact an officer at the police department for any information on the case. The officer at the department may not have had the most current information about the progress of officers on location since he was not actually present.

Sheridan is safe

For those of you who are complaining about the safety I Sheridan if you think it is unsafe then by all means leave! It is obvious there has not been a murder unless there is proof of one. If they are still investigating it then they are looking for proof. I have been living overseas in Europe the last few months and I can't wait to come home to Sheridan. You would not believe the crimes that go on in other parts of the world. I can tell you it sure opened up this Wyomingite's eyes. No place is sheltered from crime and violence, but Sheridan is probably one of the safest places in the world.

Safety of Sheridan

I would just like to put things in perspective here for all those complaining about Sheridan's saftey and the law enforcement there. I read this page everyday to see what is going on back home and to actually read news that is mostly positive. Simple stories about our community. I have to smile when people get heated over a dog park or recycling. It actually makes me feel good and like I am back home. I read about drug busts and random murders in Sheridan and it is upsetting, but I am not shocked by it as it can and does happen everywhere.

That being said I also read the news here and it is so depressing. Just in the last week in Dublin (Ireland) there were 3 reported murders. One just last night, where they found the body of a 27 year old man laying shot dead on a street. 2 nights ago a 24 year old was shot dead and another injured in a dispute. Earlier this week they found the bosy of a known organized crime boss shot dead and dumped behind Dublin airport. They found a body in the River Liffey of a murdered man aswell. There was a petrol bomb attack at a house in Dublin. A viable device found and made safe yesterday. Huge drug busts, millions in marajuana, cocaine, and heroine each week. Robberies, rapes, kidnappings. And that is just in Dublin alone. The rest of the country you read much of the same. The people here complain about the police here as well and they have a reason to be affraid.

We may not like what is going on in Sheridan right now, but as a community we can change it. We as a community need to work with the police and sherrifs department to stop these crimes from happening. We cannot assume that the police and sherrifs department are going to know about the guy dealing drugs from the house across the street unless we report it. We need to take the blinders off and not assume all is well because things like that don't happen in Sheridan. We need to be aware of what is going on around us so we can help the police get rid off the riff raff that have come in. Sheridan is safe and I miss it terribly and wish I was home there now, but if we want to keep it safe it is up to us to do so.

This goes for all of the communities in Sheridan County. Even the smallest town is affected by this as some of us have unfortunately experienced first hand. Drug dealers and violence are everywhere and it can be a neighbor you would never suspect. Awareness and reporting suspicious activity is really important in stopping any crime.

I personally want to thank the law enforcement agencies in Sheridan County for all their hard work. It is a tough and often thankless job.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I lived my childhood in Sheridan, and left for greener grasses and bluer skies. Didn't find them, but I did find my niche. I teach at one of 7 high schools in this city. We have 1500 kids at this school. We have bloods, crypts, MS-13 and many other gang affiliates. You wanna talk crime, there are MURDERS ( yes more than one) daily. I feel completely safe. Remember the DC sniper???? He was only and hour from my house. That's the only time I ever "lived in fear." Sheridan is about as safe as Antarctica. Doesn't anyone remember when Central Middle School had the weirdo come on the football field and shoot up the kids in P.E. Random acts of violence are just that. And if YOU think you have it so rough living in Sheridan, move to HAITI where they just lost 100,000 people.

Exactly

Those that think Sheridan is unsafe have a lot of learning to do because let me tell ya, we have it down right pleasant here. I have very close friends spread across the US and some of the stories they tell are so completely foreign and hard to wrap your mind around to somebody that has grown up here in boring ol' Sheridan, Wyoming. Where a vast number of people can park their outfit with the keys in the ignition and go into the store without a second thought, where you can walk any street in town without worry after dark, and where the most interesting thing many days in the police reports are "dog at large".

From the updated article PD has the suspect in custody so there is no need for mass hysteria. Unfortunately it doesn't matter where you are or how safe your town is - murders happen occasionally and for vastly different reasons. The best police force in the world can't prevent them all. We've been unlucky enough to be dealt two extraordinarily rare unfortunate events for our town in a short amount of time.

My prayers go out to the families and friends effected by this tragic event.

This is too scary! My house

This is too scary! My house is one block away from there! What is Sheridan coming to?

Unbelieveable

I cannot believe there has been another murder here!! I just moved my family here about a year and a half ago, but am seriously considering moving away from here. I cannot believe this. Just as the other comment states...two murders within six months?? I brought my family here from Washington to get away from all of that and it looks like Sheridan was the wrong place. Maybe the understaffed and disorganized police department, as well as disorganized city council, needs to get their priorities straightened out to get Sheridan back to where it used to be years ago. A nice community with so much to offer filled with good people. Lock your doors, windows, vehicles, and watch yourselves people. Sheridan just is not what it used to be.

I am not one who is normally

I am not one who is normally a fan of the Sheridan Police, but your post is rather unnerving. A murder is not necessarily the result of an understaffed unorganized police force. Are the police supposed to babysit everyone in their homes at all times to make sure everyone is behaving? Your reasoning is ridiculous. Everyone is trying to find someone to blame, a reason behind the madness, but sometimes things just happen, people do bad things and there is no one to blame but the person who performed the actions. I see no reason to criticize the police force. Maybe if they were not doing their jobs correctly, Sheridan would resemble other places where crime is out of control, maybe like that place in Washington you ran away from.

Disorganized Police

Disorganized Police Department? Who happend to solve the Ernst murder in less than 18 hours...and who have this suspect in custody. Where is that coming from? Understaffed...most definitely...but disorganized...I think not. Kudos to the police department for their swift action in both cases. They devoted a large volume of resources to both crimes. Sorry to say that even Sheridan has people who do harm and no amount of trying will make all crime disappear. It is human nature plain and simple. At least give credit where credit is due.

DCI agents from Cheyenne

DCI agents from Cheyenne solved the Ernst murder in under 18 hours. Thats who.

I agree. We've had our car

I agree. We've had our car broken into and things stolen from our yard. We live not far from where this latest possible murder happened. Sheridan is going down hill. Lots of drugs, I think this is a large part of the problem. I am just glad we have a large gaurd dog, it will at least possibly help deter anyone from entering our home.

who was killed and who has

who was killed and who has been arrested? I know who lives there. Just wondering

WTF

Isnt that where Dennis David lives? had some good times there. bummer

Damian

where d.d. lives

that would be yes...

Murder is a part of life.

Murder is a part of life. Something that's been part of human history from the beginning. I'm sure there's murders every day in the city. Be glad your in a Poe dunk town and not in the hood for gangsters to be jumping you for money for crack.

You obviously have never

You obviously have never lost a loved one who was viciously murdered!!! DEATH is a part of life not murder!

!! Jeeze !! I will be

!! Jeeze !! I will be watching for more details. I wonder what happened. If they have no body, I wonder what's led them to think someone was killed??

Wish I knew more too

I wish I knew more as well i live just one block down....not cool!!! Lots of cops around here with crime tape up. I know I wont be sleeping tonight.

What happend? I wish there

What happend? I wish there was more deatils

What??

All I can say is what is this town coming too? Thats two murders in less then 6 months in this town. Its just ridiculous that people think that murder is the way to deal with their problems.

Murder would involve a dead

Murder would involve a dead body.Have they found one of those yet?

they do have a body..i live

they do have a body..i live across the street and the SPD are doing everything they need to be doing to get this solved and taken care..
