BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Yellowstone County authorities have tentatively identified the pilot killed in a helicopter crash as an 81-year-old Billings man. Sheriff Mike Linder says investigators believe Saturday's crash killed Dan Scott, one of five children of Homer Scott, who founded what is now First Interstate BancSystem.
The company has 72 banks across Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. Linder said that information gathered during the investigation led authorities to believe Scott was the pilot. An autopsy Wednesday is expected to confirm Scott's identity.
A funeral listing from Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary says a celebration of Scott's life is scheduled for May 6 at the Padlock Ranch. The crash and resulting fire happened Saturday morning north of Shepherd. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
