In 2011, there were 62 burglary cases in the City of Sheridan. That number jumped to 106 in 2012, which is a 71 percent increase. Sheridan Police Chief Richard Adriaens says that one of the biggest contributing factors to that spike in cases is the ever growing problem of prescription drug abuse.

Adriaens pointed out that the increase in burglary cases is a little misleading.

The number of minor in possession of alcohol violations rose considerably in 2012, as there were 99 MIP citations last year, which resulted in a 74 percent increase to the year prior. Adriaens said that there were a number of large underage drinking parties last year that resulted in the jump in MIP citations issued.
