This weekend at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, there will be a pig wrestling event as a fundraiser for Buffalo's Summit Gymnastics. The fundraiser will raise money to help offset the costs involved with teaching gymnastics and traveling to competitions.
Dave Harness, who helped organize Summit Gymnastics, tells us more about the program and its coach.
Harness said the program averages about eighty students, and the problem with small towns and small clubs is the costs involved with maintaining the program. The catch is, he says, that expenses need to be paid, but the cost of the program to the student's family needs to be affordable.
Harness said their sponsors are in place, but they are still taking teams for the pig wrestling. Only seventeen teams will be signed up, so he urges interested participants to get signed up as quickly as possible by calling him at 684-2251.
The Pig Wrestling, which begins at 5 pm June 18th, is happening in conjunction with the Powder River Ranch Rodeo.
Harness said participants and spectators will all have a lot of fun.
Summit Gymnastics will also be selling tickets to win a couple of pigs, and will also be selling fifteen others. They are asking $200 per pig, but donations above and beyond that will be gladly accepted.
There will also be a Calcutta just before the event starts, so show up a little early.
