Sheridan Media's Chris Foy has the details on the storm that hit Sheridan on Thursday afternoon.
At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, a severe hail storm hit Sheridan causing damage to many vehicles. Emergency Management Coordinator for Sheridan County, Dave Coleman, explains.
Coleman says in the southern part of town, there was only enough precipitation to get the ground wet. While these types of severe storms are rare, Coleman says they do happen.
He says in the minutes following the storm, the National Weather Service in Billings was inundated with calls. Sheridan was not the only area hit by the storm, as the rest of northeastern and north-central Wyoming and northern Montana were also hammered.
Coleman advises residents to take shelter, bring livestock into a barn if possible and park vehicles in a safe, protected location if advance notice of a severe hailstorm is given.
