On Friday, the only way to go in and out of Yellowstone National Park from the east entrance had been closed because of the danger of avalanches.
Park officials say Sylvan Pass over the Absaroka Range to all travel by snowmobile, snow-coach, skis and snowshoes is prohibited.
During this time, the only people allowed in the area will be employees of the park service that are specifically assigned to and involved in avalanche forecasting and avalanche hazard mitigation operations.
The pass will remain closed until forecast conditions permit park employees to conduct avalanche hazard mitigation operations and groom the route for motorized over-snow travel. Park officials say it's impossible to estimate when the pass may open, because the re-opening is entirely dependent on the changing weather conditions.
