Anyone looking for a welcoming place to spend Thanksgiving Day is invited to come to the Sheridan Palace on North Main Street in Sheridan for a turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, and a lot of people to share it with.
The Palace, once again this year, will host a free Thanksgiving dinner, from 11-3. Palace owner Jane Cain, her husband and staff have been providing the annual meals since 1998.
Cain said that first year, only 10 of the Palace's regular customers came. Last year, around 350 people attended. This year, she's planned for 400.
Feeding that many people takes a lot of planning, she said, but waitress and front-end manager Shelly Burfiend said help comes from community residents who volunteer to help with everything from preparing the meal to serving. She said donations from the community also supplement the food the restaurant owner buys for the dinner.
The front-end manager said preparation for the dinner started two weeks ago. Cain's husband will come to the restaurant this afternoon and start cooking turkeys because 25 turkeys are on this year's menu.
