Carbon County gets remote underwater vehicle tool

The Carbon County Sheriff's Office has a
new underwater remote operated vehicle capable of exploring
underwater for drowning victims or evidence.
The county paid about $59,000 using a Department of Homeland
Security grant for the unit, accessories and training.

Following months of debate and political wrangling, a bipartisan group of senators received an up or down vote to stop overreaching actions by the Environmental Protection Agency's attempts to regulate carbon dioxide emissions. The Senate voted against a resolution disapproving the EPA's overreach by a vote of 47-53.

Feds Announce Extra Funding for Grasshopper Fight

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The federal government is providing emergency funding to help suppress costly grasshopper outbreaks this summer in western rangeland states like Wyoming and Montana. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Friday that nearly $11 million will be available through the department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. The department says the funding could protect up to 4 million acres of rangeland.

Flooding Along Big Goose

The flooding has begun throughout many parts of Sheridan County, as Big Goose Creek is running over its banks and has flooded a home on NB Avenue and several residences along Big Goose Road. Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Coleman has this advice for those who are experiencing flooding.

The Sheridan County Fair Association Board of Trustees approved a traffic pattern and parking plan at their meeting Thursday night. Facilities Director Sharon Nadeau says the overall goal is to increase public safety.

Celebrate the Arts is Underway

The kick-off of the 9th annual Celebrate the Arts Festival began Thursday evening at the Historic Sheridan Inn with close to 150 people attending.  The night started with the introduction of the 20 new on-loan sculptures and the announcement of the four newest acquisitions for the permanent collection found around town.

Judge Sampson on Municipal Court Proposal

The question was raised at a City of Sheridan budget work session last month of possibly doing away with or modifying the Municipal Court system to save the City money. If the City would choose to eliminate Municipal Court or even make changes to the way it's run, it would have an overwhelming impact on the case load for Sheridan County Circuit Court, as they would receive an additional 1,000 to 2,000 tickets a year.
