Sheridan Student Athletes Excel Academically

The fall sports season in Sheridan County School District 2 is coming to an end and winter sports are beginning. The Sheridan High School football team excelled on the field, losing only one game all season, and Activities Director Don Julian says they are starting to get the grade reports for the students.

School District 1 Looking To Receive Stimulus Funding

Some Federal stimulus funds will be used in Sheridan County School District 1. The funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act will be distributed through the Title 1 program in the state. However, to qualify for those funds, schools must have a certain ratio of students receiving free or reduced lunches.

Sheridan Mother Charged With Felony In Domestic Dispute

An altercation on Sunday night led to a Sheridan woman being arrested for allegedly attacking her 20-year-old son with a knife. 51-year-old Barbara Barnett made her initial appearance in Sheridan County Circuit Court yesterday on charges of aggravated assault and battery.

University of Wyoming School of Nursing Receives $280,000 Grant

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming has received a $280,000 grant to help address the state's need for highly educated nurses. The money goes to the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing and the Wyoming Center for Nursing and Health Care Partnerships. It comes from the Wyoming Workforce Development Council and Department of Workforce Services.

Crowd Gathers To Send Community Photo To Troops For The Holidays

One person’s vision may make the holidays better for around 70 Sheridan troops currently deployed overseas. One of the largest deployments of Wyoming troops in the state’s history has been going on since this spring. One Sheridan woman is spearheading a campaign to make sure that every one of the Sheridan troops gets a package from home this holiday season.

Sagebrush School To Be Used As Example For State Education Department

Sagebrush Elementary School just received their Blue Ribbon award last week and now there is talk of teachers and administrators bringing their curriculum ideas to the rest of the state. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jim McBride says there is always room for improvement.

City Of Sheridan Police Chief

At the end of December, current Sheridan Police Chief Mike Card will be moving back to California, and there are six semi-finalists in a candidate pool for his replacement on the force. The panel weeding out the candidates from applications originally numbering around 100 has decided to withhold the names of these six, for the time being at least.
