PAC Donations Scrutinized by Political Watchdogs

The Center for Responsive Politics reports Wyoming's congressional race has already raised more than half a million dollars. Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the center, said this year's funds are some of the most suspicious in history.

Fundraisers defend the system, saying monetary donations to candidates are an extension on free speech. Krumholz insists many super-PACs are using pseudonyms or presenting themselves as charities to evade full disclosure.

Though the IRS has been investigating misleading campaign contributions, Krumholz insists organizations are using more covert methods to influence elections. She predicts candidates and their allies will spend at least $5.8 billion on federal campaigns this year.
