Sheridan's Suicide Prevention Coalition hosted its first “Out of the Darkness” walk on a beautiful sunny morning Saturday, September 11th. Over 100 people turned out to support the event. Many were survivors who have lost loved ones to suicide, and many were there out of concern for the crisis our state finds itself in. Vanessa Hastings, chair of the Coalition, told the crowd before the walk.

Keynote Speaker during the Opening Ceremony, BJ Ayers of Cheyenne, lost two of her three sons to suicide. The first, Brett, died at age 19 in 2006. The second, Beau, died last August at the age of 26. She spoke about her surviving son, Blair.

The Ayers founded Grace for 2 Brothers as a means to honor the memory of Brett and Beau, and to provide support for survivors and help to those contemplating suicide. To learn more about the foundation, click here: http://www.gracefor2brothers.com/

As of this report, this first year effort for Sheridan brought in $12,000; their goal was to raise $10,000. A final tally of how much was raised will be announced in December, after all donations have been turned in.
