This year's Buffalo Relay For Life events, changed slightly to accommodate some new events and a new venue, went very well and had a good turnout of participants, according to organizers of this weekend's events.
This year's “new and Improved” Relay For Life took place at Buffalo's Washington Park and began with their kickoff and Luminaria ceremonies Friday night.
Saturday morning, the new events, the “Finish The Fight Fun Run” offered participants a 5-mile fun run, a 5-mile challenge walk and a 1-mile fun walk.
Results from the fun run events will be released early next week.
After the fun run events was a community BBQ with food, refreshments, games and music.
Co-organizer Monica Burridge said they, were pleased with the turnout of 108 participants, especially considering the change of venue, coupled with the new events.
108 is s good start, she said, although the hope is naturally to have more participants next year.
Money from this weekend's events will be collected with donations from around Buffalo until they close later in August, so no final figures were available this week.
The Relay For Life events raise money for cancer research, and help cancer patients with services and programs through the American Cancer Society.
