Twice a year, the Sheridan Senior Center holds two major fund-raising campaigns. One is the Holiday Spirit Campaign which is conducted in November and December; the other, in conjunction with America's Birthday July 4th, is the Operation Independence Campaign.
Rindy West, Director of Development at the Center, explains the latter.
The Center was not immune to some of the City of Sheridan's budget cuts, while the Center has also taken on some other programs, for example, in-home services that are provided to anyone who needs it, with a sliding scale based upon ability to pay.
Important to note, even though resources may decline, those needing the Center's services are only increasing, as the majority of the Baby Boomer generation is now in the 50 and better age group.
West says they are shooting for $20,000 or more for the 2011 campaign, adding that they are just over $11,000 toward that goal.
