A 29-year-old Colorado man died and a 34-year-old Rawlins man was injured in a rollover on WYO Highway 70 in Carbon County early Friday morning. The driver, Joshua C. Hart of Rawlins, survived the crash while his passenger, Justin R. Carrillo of Pueblo, Colo. died at the scene just one mile east of Baggs.

According to a media release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Hart was headed westbound on WYO 70 when he attempted to negotiate a right hand curve. His vehicle, a 1998 GMC pickup truck, crossed the center line and went off the left shoulder of the highway.

Hart attempted to steer back onto the roadway, causing the vehicle to go into a broadside slide when it struck a concrete wall. The pickup rolled an undetermined number of times before coming to rest in a ravine.

During the rollover, the highway patrol says Carrillo was totally ejected from the cab of the pickup and Hart was partially ejected. Neither the driver or the passenger were wearing their seat belts.

Troopers investigating this crash say they believe excessive speed - and alcohol use - may be contributing factors. Upon completion of the crash investigation all reports will be turned over to the Carbon County Attorney’s Office for their review.

The highway patrol says the Carbon County Attorney's Office will make the final determination as to whether any criminal charges will be filed as a result of this fatality.
