The Sheridan County Attorney's Office Monday announced the identity of the two Sheridan Police Officers involved in a fatal shooting on the 4th of July that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Sheridan resident Jesse Salveson. Sheridan County Attorney Matt Redle.
Slack was the Officer that fatally shot the 23-year-old after Salveson came at him with a knife and stabbed him in the arm. Redle says that they haven't come to any findings yet regarding the investigation into the incident.
Events that led up to the shooting began with a 911 call from Salveson's wife just before 8 pm on the evening of July 4th. After Officers Slack and Keller arrived to the home on West Nebraska Street, they found Mrs. Salveson in the front yard of the home bleeding from a cut on her hand that she sustained while taking a knife away from her husband. Upon entering the home, the Officers had little success in their attempts to calm the situation verbally before an unsuccessful attempt to taser Salveson.
Shortly after the missed taser attempt, Salveson went into a room of the house where the two officers positioned themselves on each side of the door. Salveson then attacked Officer Slack with the knife, stabbing him in the arm before being shot two times.
Redle stated that he was uncertain as to when the test results would be complete as they are waiting to hear from two different laboratories.
