The Northern Wyoming Community College District held their monthly meeting at the Gillette College campus Thursday night. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has the details.

The Board of Trustees unanimously endorsed a new strategic plan for the College District. The plan includes three strategic action areas and an overall goal of increasing the number of certificates and degrees awarded annually to 1,000 by 2020.

In fiscal year 2011, the College District awarded 461 certificates and degrees. In a media release issued by Sheridan College, President Dr. Paul Young said that while 1,000 awards a year by 2020 may be a lofty goal, they have a team of committed people focused on making it happen.

Young also said that it is estimated that by the year 2020, 65 percent of the jobs in Wyoming will require training beyond high school and that their strategic plan is focused on student success, which means completion.

The three strategic areas included in the new plan are student success, community success, and organizational health.
