Kenneth DeCock is the new Johnson County Attorney, after winning the position in the 2010 elections. DeCock took office in January of this year.

Having had a couple of months to adjust to his position, he answered a few questions about himself to let Johnson County know who he is.

When asked what made him run for the office, he said he originally had no intention of running when he moved to Buffalo, but at the urging of some in the community, he decided he should run and give the voters a choice for county attorney.

The office is what he expected it to be, he said, but transitions are always difficult. He and his staff are adjusting and learning their new positions.

DeCock said he would like to see his office become more involved in juvenile and elderly issues, like juvenile drug problems and elder law and elder care and abuse issues. Getting his office more involved in the community in general is another priority, he said.

When asked if he would run for the office again in four years, he had this to say.

DeCock has hired an Assistant Deputy Attorney, Christian LukJan, who he says was the best candidate for the job for a number of not-so-traditional reasons.

Lukjan will be sworn into his office Monday morning at 9am in the District Courtroom at the courthouse and will get to work immediately, DeCock said.
