The newest Johnson County Commissioner, John Gibbs, says his first couple of months on the job have been an adjustment and he is still learning, but so far it is pretty much what he expected it to be and he is enjoying the job.
Gibbs was asked why he decided to run in the first place.
Gibbs said he didn't expect the job to take as much time as it does. Not that he is complaining, it's just an observation that it takes a lot more of his time than he thought it would.
Gibbs said when he decided to run for office, he didn't have an agenda or a preconceived idea of what he wanted to change, really, he just wanted to serve and give something back to the community. When asked what he wanted to accomplish before he leaves office, he did have an idea about that.
When asked if he felt he wanted to make a career out of politics, Gibbs bristled slightly and said he would serve only one term. Maybe.
Ninety-two more meetings before his term is up. That gives him plenty of time to change his mind. Or not.
