Sheridan firemen were called to North Heights Avenue Tuesday afternoon to extinguish a residential fire. Dustin Shaw, an observant neighbor, saw the flames and notified the homeowner of the situation.
Together, they used a garden hose to keep the fire at bay while they waited for firetrucks to arrive. City Fire Marshall, Brian Songer, said their efforts paid off.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire had not penetrated the garage wall. Songer said that the investigation has determined that there were no possible spontaneous ignition sources and that the fire was caused by an accidental ignition source. The specific accidental ignition source has not been identified and remains under investigation
