The Senate Budget Committee has begun considering the first budget resolution in almost four years. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi says there needs to be some kind of recognition that out-of-control spending - not a lack of tax revenue - is America’s most significant fiscal problem.
Enzi serves as one of two accountants on the budget committee and says they have a lot of work ahead of them.
He says any proposed budget must acknowledge that the federal government, and as a result the entire nation, is in the midst of a spending addiction.
Moving forward, Enzi says he hopes to see tax reforms for businesses to encourage growth, an expanded tax base through lower tax rates and a proposal to reign in federal spending to preserve certain programs for future generations.
