The Buffalo/Johnson County Community Resource Center, in cooperation with the Buffalo Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a drug take-back event in celebration of the National Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 28th from 10am to 2pm.

Bill Hawley, Substance Abuse prevention Specialist with the CRC, tells us more about the local drug take-back day.

Unused or expired medicines are susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Prescription drug abuse is increasing at alarming rates in the US as well as accidental poisonings and overdoses due to abuse of the drugs, according to information provided by the CRC.

Bring old, unused and/or outdated prescription medications to the drop-off at the YMCA. Items not accepted are: needles and sharps; mercury (thermometers); oxygen containers; chemotherapy medicines; radioactive substances; pressurized canisters or liquids and creams.

The Drug Take-Back Day will take place at the Johnson County Family YMCA in conjunction with their Healthy Kids Day celebration April 28th.
