Authorities shot and killed a 2-year-old 100-pound female mountain lion in a residential area in north Gillette on Tuesday, according to a media release from the Wyoming Game and Fish.
The release, sent late Tuesday, states that the Game and Fish authorized the action after the animal would not leave the area near Warlow Drive in Gillette. Reports began Monday from residents who saw the lion in the area.
Gillette Game Warden Irah Lionetti stated in the release that it's never an easy decision for a wildlife professional to destroy a wild animal but public safety is their first priority. It was determined that it would only increase danger to the public if officials attempted to immobilize and relocate the animal.
