A one person motorcycle accident late Monday afternoon 42 miles north of Gillette on WYO 59 resulted in the death of 28-year-old Ryan Coates of Gillette. Wyoming Highway Patrol Sergeant Stephen Townsend explains the events that led to the fatal crash.

Townsend said that Troopers that are investigating the crash believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor, as it appears that Coates' high rate of speed did not allow him to control the bike while trying to negotiate the curve in the road. Coates was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
