In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness month, the Advocacy and Resource Center will host its March Against Family Violence Saturday, October 8th in downtown Sheridan to raise awareness about violence in the home.

Rhonda Weber, Victim Advocate with the center, says that the event began as an event intended to raise awareness in males, but now it's for everyone.

Weber encourages attendees to wear purple for the walk, as that is the color symbolizing the month.

Participants will trek from the Sheridan County Courthouse Parking area past US Bank down Main Street to Grinnell Plaza starting at 8:30 am.

The Advocacy and Resource Center works to promote awareness that family violence is not acceptable because children, communities and families are too important to lose as a result of violence.

Weber said there are plenty of instances about which people don't necessarily hear, so raising awareness is important.
