Jason Moran, a composer and jazz pianist who attended the Ucross Residency in 2007, was selected this week for a MacArthur Foundation fellowship. Sharon Dynak, President of the Ucross Foundation
She says they pick people who they believe are going to be making future breakthroughs or have a lot of potential in their field. The scientists, artists and other creators are awarded the scholarship in order to allow them to focus on their creative work:
A total of 23 individuals were awarded the 2010 MacArthur fellowship. In addition a jazz musician, an bee entomologist, a computer security scientist, a biomedical animator and a population geneticist are among this year's recipients.
Jason is the 4th "Genius" who has attended Ucross.
